Vietnamese Lap Steel
Vietnamese lap steel guitar is truly something different to witness, especially to the Western ear... In the following video clip, three Western Swing instruments--electric guitar, lap steel and fiddle--are transformed into what is here described as "traditional" Vietamese music. The steel player seems to be using a Open Major chord tuning, and sounds more like traditional blues at times. At other times the music seems to disintegrate into a cacophony that we can only assume is traditional in the Vietnamese tradition. Either way, this video performance offers a new take on our beloved lap steel and again shows the sheer vesatility of this amazing instrument. Enjoy this performance from Vietnam!
