The Drifter

The Drifter was a 1960s era American television show that featured Marty Robbins playing acoustic guitar and Jerry Byrd playing Dobro as they acted like passengers on a freight ship.

The following video clip showcases at least four different songs--all played live--under the context of these two musicians waiting for their ships to board.

Notable in this 15 minute Part 1 video are the songs Wailana (Drowsy Waters), where Marty sings Hawaiian lyrics in the traditional falsetto style.

The latter piece is followed by an exciting rendition of Hilo March, with lots of close-ups showing Jerry Byrd's bar control technique--not to be missed!
