Santo and Johnny
Santo and Johnny clearly are worthy of mention here for their song Sleepwalk, which has inspired countless players to pick up the lap steel guitar.
The song Sleepwalk, written by brothers Santo and Johnny Farina, first burst on the scene in 1959, and has stayed in the popular culture ever since, with versions being covered by diverse artists from Joe Satriani, Danny Gatton, Jeff Beck, Leo Kottke and Chet Atkins, amongst many others. Not only is the song one of the most popular lap steel guitar song, it's also one of the most successful instrumentals of all time. Johnny Farina is still playing and has an active touring schedule to date. Check out his website at www.santoandjohnny.com. The grainy 1950s-era video below shows the two brothers in their youth, performing their classic, timeless hit. Enjoy! |
