Picking Exercise
"chops maintenance", a.k.a. "daily warmups", are important habits when seeking to improve your lap steel guitar playing technique... The following video gives a simple right hand picking warmup that involves "rolling" the four-note G6/Em7 chord that's found at the 7th fret. You'll hear Josh use right hand finger notation borrowed from classical guitar discipline: P stands for thumb; I stands for index finger; M stands for middle finger; and A is for the 'ring' or fourth finger. Otherwise called PIMA. Practice along with the video if you wish, it's shot in our unique Point Of View style, so whatever you see on the screen is what you see when you look down at your lap steel guitar. Josh is using the "high" C6 tuning, from lowest to highest: ACEGACEG Return from Picking Exercise to the Lessons page |
